How Can I Help My IBS?

Natural Help for Irritable Bowel SyndromeWoman-with-Irritable-Bowel

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) sounds like a catch all title for anything that may upset your digestive tract. IBS is very common and is characterized as a common disorder that affects the large intestine. Fortunately, it is not damaging to the intestinal lining or a cause of cancer like ulcers and Crohn’s disease. The syndrome is a chronic condition and it will be long term.

Symptoms of IBS

The symptoms of this disorder vary from individual to individual. They can range from abdominal cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation, and even mucus in the stool. This syndrome can be extremely uncomfortable and hard to live with. Many people do not realize that they have IBS, so ensure that you see a doctor if your symptoms progress to rectal bleeding, extreme abdominal pain, and/or weight loss.

What Causes IBS?

So, what causes IBS? Unfortunately, the cause is not entirely understood, but there are many factors. Some of the factors include too weak or too strong of an intestinal lining. The problem may also lie in the communication between the brain and the digestive system. These signals may cause an overreaction to normal triggers and that may be the cause of the pain.

What are IBS Triggers?

What are some of the triggers that can cause IBS? Some people have foods that are large triggers to their IBS including chocolate, spices, fruits, beans, fats, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, milk, carbonated beverages, and alcohol. Stress is also a trigger of IBS, especially if it is exam time or a big project at work. Hormonal changes are also thought to be an issue, especially since IBS is more common in women than men.

What are the recommendations to keep this syndrome under control?

  • Add Fiber – Make sure to slowly add dietary fiber supplements to your diet. It may be something that decreases the constipation, but ensure that it is a supplement that will not increase gas and bloating. One product is G.I. Fortify by Pure Encapsulations. It supports a healthy GI tract, bowel regularity, colon cell function and detoxification. It has soluble fiber, aloe vera, chlorella, l-glutamine, and flax seed that work together to support a happy bowel.
  • Avoid Foods – Figure out your triggers and then avoid them. If gas is extremely painful in your version of IBS, leave out broccoli and cauliflower. Watch out for dairy, which can cause discomfort in individuals that don’t suffer from IBS.
  • Eat Regularly – Make sure to eat in regular increments, because small and frequent meals are easier for the digestive system to digest.
  • Drink Plenty of Fluids – Keep your system and body hydrated and ensure that it is able to continue functioning. Avoid caffeine and carbonation.
IBS is a disorder that many individuals suffer from, even if they don’t know they have the disorder.

By knowing your triggers and avoiding them, it can be an easier life in regards to IBS. The syndrome is chronic and cannot be cured, but by eating regularly, adding fiber, and drinking plenty of fluids, you may be able to lessen the effects that it has on you.
