Stretch marks are something unsightly on the body that no one wants to have. They are basically tearing of the skin that leaves marks. It is basically overstretched skin that starts out red in the stretched part and it eventually fades to a lighter color than your normal skin tone.
These stretch marks usually occur in overweight individuals, during puberty, and in pregnant individuals. This is due to rapid weight gain or rapid weight loss. The stretch marks occur in the armpits, thighs, abdomen, chest, and groin. The mechanism is still under debate, but thought to be from damage to elastic fibers in the dermis of the skin. It is basically stretched more than it can tolerate and it breaks the connective tissue.
So, how do you prevent this from occurring? Some doctors say that there is no prevention from this and that the severity of your stretch marks depends on your genetic makeup. However, there are creams and scar treatments that may be beneficial. There are also laser therapies that may help decrease the signs of damage.
Here is a list of several options to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
- Creams – Earth Mama Angel Baby makes a natural scar treatment called C-Mama Healing Salve. It contains vitamin C, olive oil, calendula, lavender, chamomile, tea tree oil, and other natural ingredients. They work to help quickly heal scars and stretch marks. It promotes cell regeneration and wound healing. The vitamin C gives the body the boost it needs in the immune system to combat infection and promote healing.
- Oils – There are also oils that can help the mending process and possibly stop the stretch marks from occurring. One example is called Baby Bump Oil, by Anna Naturals. It is made with wheat germ oil, safflower oil, coconut oil, sesame seed oil, avocado oil, jojoba seed oil, sunflower seed oil, olive oil, vitamin E, vitamin A, and orange essential oil. This blend can help hydrate the skin and prevent itching and stretching of the skin. It also has a mild scent, to not interfere with pregnancy nose.
- Laser Stretch Mark Removal – If the creams and oils were not successful in preventing or healing stretch marks and scars, there is another option. This option is more expensive and can be a little painful. It is called laser ablation. (see video above) It uses ultraviolet light to disrupt molecular bonds in the skin. It causes the skin to disintegrate through ablation. The treated area will undergo a healing process and the new skin will grow and repair the damaged skin. Healthy skin will take the place of the damaged skin and you will look renewed.
Stretch marks are a fact of life if you experience puberty, weight gain, weight loss, and/or pregnancy. These stretch marks can be severe or unnoticeable depending on your genetics and race. However, the oils and creams can help minimize the appearance of scars and stretch marks due to their moisturizing properties. If not, there are high tech laser methods that can be there to help you out.
