The old saying goes “you are what you eat”. And in many cases it is true including for your long locks. The healthier your diet the better your hair and skin will look. Here are some of the foods that are the most important for getting your hair all the nutrients it needs.
Oysters are high in the mineral zinc, which is critical for hair growth and the function of oil glands that keep your hair nourished. Zinc also helps repair and grow other tissues. Your hair is 97% protein, so it is important to get enough protein in your diet. Eggs have high levels of protein. They also contain other minerals including iron. Iron plays an important role in the blood transporting oxygen. When your body has too little iron, a condition known as anemia, you can suffer from hair loss.
Apart from having more antioxidants than any other common fruit or vegetable, blueberries contain lots of vitamin C. Like iron, vitamin C is critical for circulation. It helps to form tiny blood vessels in the scalp that allow oxygen to get to the hair follicles. People without enough vitamin C in their diet often have brittle and broken hair.

Not enough vitamin A in your diet can mean dry dull hair or dandruff. Sweet potatoes also help your body produce the oils that keep your scalp healthy and happy.
